The Hip Hop Head Foundation challenges the hip hop community to get involved. On May 31, 2013 our Founder took to Twitter with a message for the masses.

Sounding the Alarm -

Our Founder issues a challenge to the rap community.

The Hip Hop Head Foundation was established for the purpose of advocating literacy and education. With a goal of inspiring a decrease in the national dropout rate, the organization is steadfast in its resolve to reach 100 percent literacy over the next twenty years.

The idea comes on the heels of inner-city school closings and the visible effects it has on communities across the nation. In the state of New York we have seen an increase in children hanging out on the streets during normal school hours, a rise in crime in urban neighborhoods, a dramatic increase in teen drug use and a rapid decline in teen self-esteem. Combating the growing epidemic of low-literacy is The Hip Hop Head Foundation's top priority.

Over the years, hip hop music has played an undeniable role in influencing the aspirations of America's youth population. The impact can clearly be seen on television and across every other commercial medium. We believe that the hip hop phenomenon can be implemented in American culture in a way greater than it is.

Presently the hip hop influence maintains a dominant presence in today's music, films, television, fashion, sports and even politics. In fact, corporate America has generated billions of dollars in sales since the inception of hip hop music into the American mainstream. Research has shown that the once misunderstood art form has been instrumental in driving the sales of nearly every major product on the market today. Simultaneously, it has broken ethnic and language barriers and continues to inspire generations of children across the globe.  Clearly, hip hop music is a viable, powerful and influential mainstay in world culture.

We have found a way to utilize that same power and influence to help students everywhere become successful leaders. By partnering with some of the most powerful and recognizable names in the hip hop community, we've developed a number of groundbreaking initiatives that will allow millions of children to receive the support, inspiration, and motivation they desire. With the help of educators, corporate partners, community leaders, parents, literacy advocates and volunteers we are able to take a clear and present stand against low-literacy.
