Understanding the "I Am a Hip Hop Head" Initiative

We are passionate about shining a positive light on the academic achievements of the hip hop community. Because of their tremendous influence on today's youth population and society as a whole, we believe the impact of showcasing their levels of scholastic achievements can revolutionize the education process.

It is the opinion of the Founder that young people have a tremendous ability to retain knowledge. Like many of their favorite rappers, they exemplify a certain and often unorthodox mastery of the use of the human language. This level of aptitude is synonymous with the hip hop community. He further believes that it can be extremely beneficial in the learning process. As we explored the intellectual side of the hip hop community, we discovered many artists who have been successful in their academic pursuits such as David Banner, Common, Ludacris, Chuck D. and Talib Kweli.

Young people, like their favorite rap artists, have the ability to learn quickly, express a thought with particularity, articulate a viewpoint, and retain a wealth of information at levels that can be described as nothing short of astounding.

When focused correctly, the power of hip hop can awaken an equivalent ability in every child.

The "I Am a Hip Hop Head" initiative is an open invitation to the hip hop community to join educators in playing an integral role in helping to renewing the mindset of students everywhere. By providing encouragement and sharing stories of academic achievement students become motivated to do the same.

That said, it can be thoroughly concluded that students involved with the initiative will be able to make the bold statement, "I am a hip hop head, too."
